Low-Carbon Envelopes: Insights from Moisture Data in Biogenic Material Walls

November 18, 2026
12:00 AM

University of Massachusetts Club
One Beacon Street, 32nd Floor
Boston, MA

Christopher Nielson from Brunner Cott will do a variation of a co-presentation he gave at the NESEA conference on Low Carbon Building Envelopes. Their presentation used two projects – RW Kern Center at Hampshire College and Aliki Perotti and Seth Frank Lyceum at Amherst College in their case study. The presentation covered moisture data from cellulose-filled double-stud walls in two Western Massachusetts academic buildings, comparing detailing approaches and the use of “smart” vapor barriers to assess durability of low-carbon, biogenic material envelopes.
